Excessive litter along Motorway M2 from Junction 2 to 4

Reported via desktop in the Litter (NH) category anonymously at 13:19, Wed 15 February 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4234837.

The excessive amount of long term eye sore litter cluttering both sides of the M2 motorway and central reservation including all junctions (2,3,4) and their sliproads is disgraceful. It appears continuous along the verges and in the bushes and in trees. The high level of litter is distracting when driving on a motorway.

Updates

  • I’m sorry to hear about the littering along the M2. Please be assured that litter is a serious issue, and we share your concern about the amount of rubbish that is discarded on our roads. We carry out regular litter inspections along the A2 and M2, with our most recent inspection on 26 January. Following our inspector’s recommendations, we’ve instructed our maintenance partners to arrange litter picks, starting on the eastbound carriageway. In addition to litter picking, they will undertake grass cutting and gully clearance. We’ve instructed the works to be carried out within 28 days, subject to suitable traffic management approval, to provide a safe working environment for the crews. Once the eastbound verges and slips have been picked, we will turn our attention to the westbound carriageway.
