Fence at rear of properties damaged by trees and insecure

Reported via desktop in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 14:34, Tue 14 February 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4232080.

Multiple trees fell onto the rear of number 53 causing damage to a building - this was resolved by a previous claim. However, the fence is still damaged and means the area is insecure. The fence is owned by National Highways and needs some repair. The fence here is generally in poor condition (installed when the A14 was originally built) so could do with replacement anyway.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning the safety fence on the A14.

We’re aware of the issue regarding the fence.

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention regarding the fence that was damaged by a fallen tree. Upon investigation, we have determined that the fence is actually a private boundary fence and is not owned by National Highways.

While we did repair the fence after the tree had fallen, any fence work that was not caused by National Highways' trees falling is the responsibility of the fence owner. Therefore, any additional repairs or maintenance needed for the fence would need to be paid for by the fence owner.

We apologise for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused, but we hope this clarifies the situation for you.
