New traffic light system NOT working on M18 M180 Roundabout

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4231272.

Since the new lights have been installed on the roundabout there is severe congestion in a morning> Vehicles are not moving into the correct lanes when moving around the roundabout - there is going to be an accident if this is not resolved. I use this route every day - I have seen near misses almost everyday I have travelled this way since the changes. PLEASE RESOLVE THIS BEFORE THERE IS AN ACCIDENT.

  • Thank you for your report of an issue with the traffic lights in this location.

    National Highways is working with a developer that have been upgrading M18 Junction 5 and in particular the exit from the Motorway Service Area. This is to accommodate major future development and manage potential growth in traffic and possible congestion.

    We've recently undertaken upgrade work at the signals but is wasn't fully complete and have this week implemented MOVA (Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation). This will link with other traffic controlled junctions on the approaches, enhance coordination, optimise the junction operation, and removes it from default signal timings. We were planning to undertake this work sooner but unfortunately there has been a delay.

    We'll continue to monitor the junction and make further adjustments as necessary to further optimise the operation.
