Road markings cannot be seen and will cause an accident

Reported via mobile in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 08:03, Fri 10 February 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4219538.

Ever since the upgrade the road markings cannot be seen in the sun or rain on the ck crete sections of the road. The black lines from the old lanes and multiple cats eye markings are way more visible than the actual white markings on the road . Cars constantly swerving at high speed to find what lane they are supposed to be in. This has been ongoing for over year and STILL not fixed the road is now a death trap

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning faded road markings on the M27 near Junction 5.

We currently have plans to completely resurface the concrete stretch of the M27, including repainting markings. We aim to increase the visual distinction between the markings and the road itself, as well as reducing the visibility of joint materials which may cause confusion. This scheme will add a thick layer of asphalt on top of the concrete that’s currently in place there, and it is due to start in Spring 2023, lasting approximately 12-18 months to complete. Up-to-date information can be found at the following link as we make it available:

  • I agree with the comment. This road is very unsafe and the resurfacing should be a top priority. You will be held accountable should a serious incident occur. Saw the same situation today around 2:30pm.

  • It’s now late summer 2023 and work has not started. Visibility is worst as sun lowers and when road is quieter - the road markings are very difficult to see and with little traffic there are fewer clues as to where the lanes are. It is hard enough in dry conditions; it is harder still when damp or wet. The glare effect has been noticeable for the last week at commuting time. It will now be dangerous until late Spring. There will be an accident on the Jct 5 to Jct 8 stretch of old concrete motorway.
