A2 Pepperhill Slip Road Leading into Hall Road - Vast Accumulation of Litter on Grass Verges which is the responsibility of National Highways

Reported via desktop in the Litter (NH) category anonymously at 12:14, Thu 2 February 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4196248.

I understand from Gravesham Borough Council that this section of the A2 is not a trunk road and so is, therefore, the responsibility of National Highways.

I also understand from Gravesham Borough Council that the grass verges on the A2 Pepperhill Slip Road leading into Hall Road is the responsibility of National Highways. There is a vast accumulation of rubbish on these grass verges which needs to be cleared.

Gravesham Borough Council are clearing the rubbish from the footpath on the left hand side of the sliproad on a scheduled monthly litter pick.

Please could National HIghways confirm when they will next clear the rubbish from this sliproad?

Thank you.

Updates

  • We're sorry to hear about littering along the A2. Please be assured that litter is a serious issue, and we share your concern about the amount of rubbish that is discarded on our roads.

We carry out regular litter inspections along the A2 west from Dartford to the M2, with our most recent inspection on 26 January. Following our inspector’s recommendations, we’ve instructed our maintenance partners to arrange litter picks, starting on the eastbound carriageway including slips. In addition to litter picking, other maintenance such as grass cutting and gully clearance will be carried out.

We’ve instructed the works to be carried out within 28 days, subject to suitable traffic management approval, to provide a safe working environment for the crews. Once the eastbound verges and slips have been picked, we will turn our attention westbound.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
