50 mph signs for a couple of hundred yards for no reason

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 10:49, Fri 27 January 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4175958.

Between junction 9 & 8 westbound there are no roadworks ongoing (there are on eastbound carriageway) however these 50 mph signs have been left there for months. I'm sure they've been left behind in error. Please remove them or explain why they are still there.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning 50mph speed limit signs on the M27.

These signs are in place due to a damaged concrete barrier in the area requiring a lower speed limit for road users' safety. We were waiting on repair materials to be delivered, and the repair is provisionally scheduled for this Thursday (2 February). Once the repair is completed, the signs will be removed.

  • I received a phone call explaining that the reason the 50mph restriction was in place was due to central reservation repairs which were due to complete by the end of February. The 50mph restriction is still in place.

  • The 50 mph restriction is still in place despite being told that it would be removed by end February 2023.
