Traffic lights out of phase again

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 20:07, Wed 25 January 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4170934.

Traffic lights for Severalls Lane bridge over A12 are out of phase again, both ends of the lane closure show green at the same time. This was reported on 18 Jan and your maintenance team found nothing wrong. This evening I called your 0300 number and was confidently informed by your employee that this wasn't a National Highways issue, despite me having an e-mail response from yourselves to the contrary. She proceeded to connect me to the Essex Highways out of hours service. Not surprisingly they denied ownership of the location but offered to report it to yourselves directly. The note below the message box that I'm currently typing in says that I should be polite... so I'll politely request that you offer some training to your call handling staff. Furthermore, for the past three years there have been signs at either end of the closure showing your 0300 phone number. These have disappeared making it rather difficult to report an issue in a timely fashion.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning traffic lights at Severalls lane. The temporary lights are unable to show green at both ends as a failsafe is monitoring the system and the lights will close down automatically. Usually it is a slow moving car possibly following a cyclist that is still on the bridge when the lights change. I am sorry to hear that when contacting the 0300 number that the operative was not aware that they are indeed our temporary traffic lights. I have notified our technical team and of your observations. We will continue to monitor this and will arrange any work if the situation changes. If you require any further update on this issue our Customer Contact Centre is available 24 hours a day at: • 0300 123 5000 • info@nationalhighways.co.uk Kind regards National Highways
