Traffic is backing upon to the motorway, due to incorrect lights sequencing

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 13:43, Wed 25 January 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4169550.

Below sent to Bury Council today

Could you please review the sequencing of the traffic lights at Heap Bridge roundabout to assist traffic coming off the M66 Southbound.

Due to the sequencing of the lights coming from Bury and onto the M66 southbound in the mornings between 8.30am and 9.30am any traffic coming onto the roundabout from the southbound slip road is blocked due to congestion in the entire junction (including the box junctions being blocked).

When the lights are on green only one or no cars can enter the roundabout, for the last few days it has been taking around 25mins from leaving the motorway to getting onto the roundabout. Whilst this is frustrating my biggest concern is that the traffic is backing upon to the motorway, which will inevitably cause an accident.
