Remove the 30mph limit

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 15:28, Mon 23 January 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4162553.

30MPH is overkill, at least bump it up to 40mph to get traffic moving better, if people can't drive safely at 40mph then they shouldn't have a licence, had no trouble crossing the bridge safely without the speed limit, and as ever no one working on the bridge ever so why the limit. Vibration is increased from the sheer volume of vehicles now passing on the bridge at once. Up the limit to 40 mph or preferably remove it.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report.

For the safety of the travelling public and that of our workforce a temporary speed limit of 30mph is required here. As the bridging plates effectively ‘ramp over’ the damaged joint, this will be likened to a ‘speed hump’ in the carriageway. Ramp Ahead and Ramp signs are in place, together with speed activated signs so it is important that vehicles travel through the works at no more than 30 mph. The layout of the contraflow on the westbound carriageway, including the 30mph speed restriction remains the same.
