Roadworks signposted and 1hour delays with ZERO roadworks happening

I am absolutely appalled that my family and I have just been sat in an hour of traffic on the a31 between new forest and ringwood only to get to the front of the roadworks and see there is no work taking place, even set up, just cones and cones for no reason. Someone should lose their job for such an absolute waste of everyone’s precious weekends. Disappointing

Thank you for your report concerning the A31 lane closure.
I’d like to apologise for any inconvenience or disruption you may have experienced.
Early last week, a water main beside the A31 burst. This pipe issue meant water was leaking onto the A31, and due to the cold temperatures, was then freezing. This made the road unsafe for vehicles, so we closed a lane to prevent accidents from occurring. Unfortunately, the ice and hostile weather conditions meant our contractors were unable to attend to the burst pipe, so we had to wait until temperatures warmed up enough for the repair to be possible before we were able to fix the pipe and clear the road.
We began repairs on Wednesday 25 January, and as of 18:00 last night (26 January), the lane was fully reopened. We anticipate that the issue should now be fully resolved and the road safe to use.
