Pelican crossing not working - AGAIN

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 09:03, Fri 20 January 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4151854.

Lights changing automatically every 20 seconds. One of the buttons for pedestrians is also not working. These lights are getting beyond a joke now. For almost 2 years they have not worked for pedestrians. They were completely replaced in December. Workmen then arrived again on 11th January and they are now not working AGAIN. Not fit for purpose at all.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report regarding the pelican crossing in this location.

I can confirm we’ve installed new pelican crossing equipment on-site in Tintwistle, from 5 December to 16 December.

Unfortunately, Third Party works being carried out on behalf of BT have been on site from 11 January 23 to 22 January at the same location. They’ve been bagging over our permanent traffic lights and working under their temporary traffic light control to install new ducting/cabling within the footway.

From the report provided by our contractor it’s been these temporary lights that have been causing the problems that have been reported. As far as we’re aware the Third Party works are now complete. Our traffic signals, which have been operating correctly under set timings, can now be changed to incorporate MOVA. We’ll also be completing software/configuration updates, which relies on free flow of traffic to provide the signal settings, which can now take place.

    Kind regards National Highways
