Induction loops ineffective

Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 23:45, Wed 18 January 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4147224.

The induction loops controlling the ATS on the roundabout on the M3 at J6 (Basingstoke) appear to be ineffective at triggering an ATS change. This is at the point where the L slip road joins the roundabout. There is a heavy bias towards traffic coming off the L slip and onto the roundabout. There is often very light, or no traffic on the slip road and traffic already on the roundabout is held at a RED for no reason. This is even the case at night when the road is dead. It appears the phasing is not being controlled by the induction loops and often causes congestion on the roundabout, sometimes dangerously so as the queue can be on the blind bend around the RAB

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning traffic light induction loop issues at Junction 6 of the M3.

These loops are currently affected by a known fault, which we've logged for repair. This repair is in the programming stage, and we will need to arrange funding before we can begin works, however this area is recorded as being high priority and we aim to start in April.
