Verges overgrowing on footpath

Reported via mobile in the Pavement/footpath/cycleway/bridleway issue (NH) category anonymously at 09:29, Tue 10 January 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4108116.

There has been no action taken regarding the overgrown verges on the A5 footpath / cycle path between Wolvey road and Sketchley meadows industrial estate.

This is meant to be a cycle path and legally must allow 4 foot for the path, there’s barely 2 foot in places.

The overgrown verges are hazard for pedestrians and cyclists. Photo shows tyre tracks where a vehicle has come up on the pavement. Pedestrians and cyclists are being pushed closer and closer to the road, if someone had been walking when the vehicle mounted the road, they would’ve been hit.

Why can’t an annual maintenance of the path/cycle path be put in place?

With spring round the corner, it’s going to get much worse, very quickly as all the nettles will start to grow as well.

Please sort, it is exasperating complaining about the same issue repeatedly.

Thanks

Updates

  • Thank you for your enquiry regarding A5 footpath/cycle path. The vegetation was cut back in August, so I have asked our contractors to attend and scrape back any overburden that is growing onto the path.
