Road surface changing from Concrete to tarmac

Reported via desktop in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 14:53, Mon 9 January 2023

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4105495.

Both ends - coming up from Southampton and entering. the road surface changes from tarmac to concrete. While the road surface itself is fine, the exact parts where they change there is a significant bump in the road, which I feel quite heavily when driving over it especially when driving at speed coming off the roundabout junction. This is particularly dangerous, and I have witnessed myself of cars that have been lowered having to significantly brake on the motorway before the bump, as to not damage their cars. It is only a matter of time before an accident is caused by this. It has been like this for a year+ of me driving this road.

  • Thank you for your report concerning a bump in the road at the concrete join.

We’re aware of the surfacing issue in this area. We are regularly monitoring the area, and will repair any damage that presents a risk to road users. Furthermore, we are currently planning a scheme to resolve the fault more permanently, which will happen later this year, though we don't have a decisive timescale yet.

    Kind regards
