Potholes and poor road surface.

Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 16:13, Fri 30 December 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4069698.

The contra flow system has been out in place and what was the hard shoulder is now being used as part of lane 1. As you travel South Bound from Stanway you have to use part of what was the hard shoulder. The road surface is so poor, vibrations through the car and it is littered with potholes. This is hardly suitable for traffic to use and should have been made safe first.

Updates

  • I was travelling in the far right lane of the roadworks yesterday evening (North bound) and hit a pot hole, which due to the cones I could not avoid. This instantly deflated my rear tyre and deformed my front, resulting in 2 new tyres for my car costing over £600. The road is not safe for cars to be travelling at 50mph.

  • I was travelling in the far right lane of the roadworks on Sunday late afternoon (North bound) and hit a huge pot hole, which I was unable to avoid. This instantly cracked my passenger side alloy on a 22 plated car!! I've now found a temporary replacement whilst I look to be replacement. I've also had to have my car investigated further due to hitting this pothole! How do I claim this back from national highways??. The road should be shut and this huge pothole repaired asap. It is not safe for cars to be travelling at any speed. Please advise, thank Mark

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

We're sorry to hear about your experience whilst travelling through our roadworks on the A12.

We made repairs to potholes between Marks Tey and Stanway when we were setting up our traffic management in October 2022.

We’re replacing the old-style concrete road as it’s reaching the end of its serviceable life. We’re aware that the road surface may be noisy and uncomfortable. The speed limit has been reduced to 50mph to reduce the impact of the road surface. During the scheme, we’ll be replacing this with a low-noise asphalt service which will provide a safer, smoother ride for road users.

We'll arrange for a member of the team to inspect the road and make any necessary repairs to potholes.

Thank you for your patience whilst we carry out these essential works.

If you would like to claim for any damage caused, please provide info@nationalhighways.co.uk with details of the damage and they'll raise a claim for you.

Thank you again for contacting us. If you need more information about this, please feel free to contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 500 or by email at info@nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards
