Signs displaying incorrect information between M62 Jct 11 and 10 Westbound

Overhead smart motorway signs displaying speed limit circles with no numbers inside Then signs signalling traffic to slow to 60mph and 40mph due to ‘queue after junction’ when there is very little traffic on the road, national speed limit back immediately after junction 10

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about gantry signs at M62 junctions 11 and 10. The way the signals were set was a result of automatic MIDAS activation. MIDAS (Motorway Incident Detection and Automated Signalling), uses loop detectors in the carriageway which collect real time data such as traffic count, speed and density. Signal gantries automatically display speed limits in response to the data recorded by the loop detectors. The issue of a circle with no no numbers displayed is being investigated and any repairs will be made as necessary. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
