The A63 has become much worse lately for accidents, break downs, flooding etc. It's become an almost daily occurrence. The road was closed 3-4 times last week, it is a constant obstacle for everyone to overcome to get in or out of the city.
Given the large volumes of traffic using the route, especially from the port and large vehicles transporting goods, surely it makes more sense to extend the M62 as far back to Hull as possible? or at least add a hard shoulder to help with breakdowns or accidents.
If this was made into a 3 lane motorway it would allow more space for everyone to use and drive more safely, given motorways are the safest roads, breakdowns would allow cars to use the hard shoulder or a lane without affecting traffic flow or still retaining 2 lanes without a hard shoulder.
The current design for the a63 is just not good enough for the number of vehicles on it, hence why we are seeing accidents every other day and this brings the entire road to a standstill and given it is the only arterial road in and out of Hull it should be better than it is.

Thank you for contacting us with your concerns regarding the A63.
As you may be aware, we do currently have a major project ongoing on the A63 which is working towards addressing some of the issues you have raised. We’re planning to create a new junction by lowering the level of the A63 at the Mytongate junction. Ferensway and Commercial Road would cross the A63 creating a split-level junction. Between Princes Dock Street and Market Place we propose to widen the eastbound carriageway to three lanes. We also plan to construct a new bridge over the A63 at Porter Street. These improvements will improve access to the port, congestion, safety and connections between the city centre and the tourist and recreational facilities. More information on the project can be found here: https://nationalhighways.co.uk/ our-roads/ yorkshire-and-north-east/ a63-castle-street/ We also have a number of schemes and studies in development that are looking at performance and improvements to key junctions and roundabouts in Hull and along the A63, all of which with safety and congestion improvements as the focus. The performance and safety of our network is continuously monitored, with our forward programme of investment developed accordingly. Thank you again for contacting us and I hope the above answers your query.
Kind regards
