Road Works / Speed Restrictions

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 00:55, Sun 11 December 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 4027664.

Could anyone please tell me why the Ouse bridge is still coned off and heavily speed restricted. I don't see any work being carried out (unless it is under the road?) Personally I think the 30 limit is a bit silly perhaps, I do abide by it, but not everyone does, and some other drivers often shoot past at speeds far greater than they should be doing, this speed 'gap' is dangerous I think. Also, I went over this evening and there was some debris (truck tyre or mud guards?) on the south bound side at the kerb, and since there is no hard shoulder, this could do to be picked up.

At the risk of grumbling for the sake of it and not knowing the reasons behind the 'work', is this getting wrapped up any time soon do we know..?

Thanks.

  • *UPDATE FROM HIGHWAYS 20-12-2022 *

Phil Jepps (Programme Delivery Manager – Yorkshire & North East) responded to my report, explained the reasons for the speed restrictions / bridge work (due to an unexpected failure of one of the bridge expansion joints) He stated that they would be "commencing physical works on the bridge from January 2023 with a programmed completion date of all the works planned for winter 2023"

So were gonna have to put up with this for a while longer it seems, but at least we now know why. Though I still cant understand quite why this has dragged on as long as it has so far...

    Whatever.
