Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning speed limits on the M27.

We've investigated this issue, and have found that there was a traffic accident along this stretch of road on 21 November 2022, so this speed limit may have been implemented to allow our workers to safely deal with the incident, and remained in place for a brief period after all road closures and congestion had been cleared. Additionally, our Smart Motorways use a system which detects slow-moving traffic and adjusts speed limits to encourage congestion to clear, and it can take a few minutes for the system to return to National Speed Limits after traffic speeds have picked up again, which may be the case in this incidence. We apologise for the inconvenience, and appreciate your understanding.
