Ouse bridge roadworks - M62, junction 37, Travelling from Ouse bridge towards Hull
The point at where the speed limit changes from 30mph to 70mph is at the same point where the slip road joins to the motor way. When joining the motorway from the slip road, cars & lorries are speeding up to 70+, and it is extremely difficult to judge vehicles speed, especially during rainy & foggy mornings. Also, the slip road has been narrowed to one lane with traffic cones, so cars cannot build up to a safe speed to join the motorway safely. All together, the roadworks have made this difficult to join the motorway safely.

Good Afternoon
Thank you for contacting us by Fix My Street on 21 November about the 30mph speed limit over the River Ouse bridge.
To undertake the emergency repair works to the bridge, it’s been necessary to implement a contraflow traffic management system over the bridge. This is to keep both the road user and our workforce safe, but also maintain traffic flows to reduce delays and congestion. For this contraflow to operate safely it is necessary for 50 and 30mph speed limits to be enforced in both east and westbound directions. There’s a traffic order in place that makes these speed limits enforceable
We’re currently in the process of establishing average speed cameras on the site because of the increased numbers of vehicles exceeding the speed limits in place. As part of the process in establishing the speed cameras some existing signs are being moved and additional signs established.
Having confirmed with the site personnel we can confirm that the 30mph is signed and commences at the very start of the entry slip road with repeaters signs as you approach the joining of the main carriageway. The slip road is reduced to single file to allow traffic to merge safely with the main carriageway traffic and as both lanes of traffic should be travelling at a maximum speed of 30mph this should allow traffic to merge safely.
Thank you again for contacting us. If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre.
