Lanes closed for no reason

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 11:42, Sun 20 November 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3978172.

Big section of the M6 28-29 2 lanes closed for no reason… nobody working on resurfacing or clearing the debris, nobody working from the incident from last night and worst of all absolutely nobody from highways around sorting the traffic to ease the queues!

Updates

  • Following the tragic incident on Saturday evening a full collision investigation process was necessary. Once the Police had completed their important investigation work, we gained full access to complete necessary repairs to the fire damaged carriageway. The damage was in Lane 2 and 3 meaning that a full closure of the M6 was needed to complete the resurfacing works. Due to the timeline of the incident and the availability of the resources repairs could not be completed until the early hours of Sunday.

To minimise customer impact, we took the decision to implement a full closure and carry out the repairs on Sunday night. The alternative was to close the M6 during the day on Sunday which would have resulted in more significant customer delays. The works have now been successfully completed and all lanes reopened. We can assure you our Traffic Officers and control room staff were working throughout the weekend to keep traffic moving as swiftly as possible.

    Kind regards, National Highways
