Road signage issue

Reported via desktop in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 17:14, Fri 18 November 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3975691.

I cannot seem to submit this on my councillor email therefore I am having to use my personal address. Please see below, this has been raised by a few residents.

I'm writing to let you know my disbelief when I came up the slip road last night to find that the left lane is left turn only. I have two issues with this. One, there were no signs stating the road layout had changed. Secondly, you have the majority of traffic, which will be going either into Helmshore, or into Haslingden, all in one lane, which will cause queues. There was zero issues with the layout before. Why were locals not consulted on this? Did Highways England have a plan, this makes no sense. Can I ask why this change was made, and what they hoped to achieve with it. (Other than confusing all local residents and now increasing traffic in the rh lane) I look forward to your response. Megan

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways,

The local authority maintain the roundabout here. They've recently made changes on the roundabout which meant we had no option than to change the the lane priorities on the slip road. We weren't consulted as to why the changes on the roundabout were made. We're currently working with the local authority regarding this matter, and will place temporary signage on the slip road to advise drivers of the new road layout.

Please contact Rossendale Borough Council if you require further information.

    Kind regards National Highways
