Traffic lights out of sync and not allowing much traffic through. A1 Junction 77

Reported via mobile in the Traffic lights (NH) category anonymously at 17:51, Thu 17 November 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3972948.

The traffic lights on the roundabout are out of sync with each other. The lights to allow A167 Ponteland Road out onto the roundabout are staying red for longer than usual and when they go green not enough traffic is allowed through causing big tail backs.

  • Traffic lights at Kenton Bar Interchange roundabout above A1 are out of sync and causing traffic to queue unnecessarily. Have had reports of this through to Newcastle City Council.

  • The red light was on for three minutes this morning just before 7 am and then the second you get through, the next light is red and then the next even if you are the first in the queue. Several lots of traffic came through from other lights on the roundabout while I was waiting.

  • The traffic lights are out of sync causing huge tailbacks on Ponteland Road. This has been the case for several days and the traffic is horrific - blocking roundabouts further back on Ponteland Road and causing traffic down Kenton Lane and surrounding areas. The sequence stays on red far too long and when it does turn it is only for a few seconds not allowing enough cars to get through and the next set of lights is already red.

  • Thank you for making your report. We attended this location on 26 March and assessed the issue. The traffic signals have now been put back onto Microprocessor Optimised Vehicle Actuation (MOVA), and the signals are working as they should be.

We will continue to monitor them, to make sure the fault doesn't persist.

    Kind regards
