Dangerous Signage

Reported via desktop in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 09:03, Tue 15 November 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3964853.

Duration: 1 Month - Ongoing East bound over Myton Bridge: bulk volume of traffic, including HGVs and all docks traffic need, have to merge from the left hand lane into the right hand lane. There WILL be an RTC here; please change the road markings and signage URGENTLY to keep the right hand lane as a single lane and allow the left hand lane users to split safely either towards Hedon Road/HMP Hull or towards Great Union Street. West Bound over Myton Bridge: current contraflow in place has EXTREMELY poor signage causing traffic to back up to the village of Hedon; due to the lack of/unsafe signage, large swathes of the left hand lane, including all HGVs, are trying to merge into the right hand lane. There is a very high risk of an RTC here without URGENTLY improved signage.

Updates

  • Good Afternoon

Thank you for your Fix My Street report on 15 November about the road markings and signage at Myton Bridge.

We’re sorry to read of the issues you’ve observed at Myton Bridge. The refurbishment of the bridge is an essential maintenance scheme and is required to keep the bridge safe.

Since we have received your complaint we’ve driven through the works to check the positioning of our signage. Following this, we’ve made a couple of changes to the signage as follows: Eastbound: 2 signs have been moved and now sit where the traffic opens to three lanes. This allows road users extra time to get into the correct lane. Westbound: signs which may have caused confusion have been removed and additional carriageway signage has been installed. This will improve traffic flow and provide extra clarity to the layout. The above measures have improved the traffic flow. Please be assured that we’re constantly monitoring the situation, and additional changes may be implemented in the future.

Thank you again for contacting us. If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone: 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards
