M6 jct 30-32. Lack of lighting.
Reported via mobile in the Street lighting (NH) category anonymously at 11:11, Wed 9 November 2022

M6, jct 30-32. Very few lights are working on this length. Please let me know the frequency of inspections, and the most recent date. The yellow sign on the slip lane informs that lights are turned off overnight. Incredibly though, the kilometre length around jct 31 has not been lit at all for more than 5 years!

Thank you for your report concerning lighting outages at M6 junctions30-32. We're aware of the lighting outages on the routes to and from M6 J30 Tickled Trout to the M55 Interchange. Due to funding constraints within the current Road Investment Strategy 2 (RIS) period which concludes in March 2025, these locations now form part of our future RIS3 programme, which commences in April 2025 and concludes in March 2030.
Therefore at this moment in time we do not have any works planned at these locations. As part of National Highways’ commitment to reduce carbon in line with Government targets all lighting schemes will be appraised in line with current policy.
This may result in sections of lighting no longer being justifiably beneficial.
Should there be any sporadic outages these are rectified as part of routine maintenance, are periodically addressed and where necessary appropriate signage will be erected to inform the public.
We will continue to monitor this and will arrange any work if the situation changes. If you require any further update on this issue our Customer Contact Centre is available 24 hours a day at:
