Gantry sign is to bright

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 13:36, Thu 27 October 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3918776.

Gantry signs are way too bright at night 26/10/22. Only the gantry that has the metal frame across all lanes (not the ones on a post). All the way from J19 to J16 I travelled, these are blinding drivers and can cause accidents. The signs appeared blurred right until the last minute because of how bright they are. This really needs sorting ASAP.

Updates

  • I'm sorry to hear that you witnessed signal issues. We had a technical fault with our systems which lasted about four hours. This was an isolated incident and did not affect stopped vehicle detection (SVD).

There was also a short planned outage (just over an hour) while a fix was installed. Again this did not affect SVD. In both cases, we increased the number of traffic officer patrols on all lane running (ALR) sections and increased CCTV monitoring. No incidents occurred. We know it’s important that drivers have confidence in the technology used on the strategic road network to help keep them and their passengers safe. We are investigating, as a matter of urgency, isolated reports of inconsistent settings on motorway gantries.

    State changed to: Fixed
