Incorrect motorway signs

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 20:43, Wed 26 October 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3917360.

Between J14 and J12 northbound at least 2 of the central reservation electronic signs indicated all 3 lanes closed. A southbound sign may also have shown this. The large overhead sign at J12 northbound also showed 3 lanes closed. What was going on? Such errors greatly undermine the credibility of these signs.

  • Thank you for your report concerning the motorway signs.

On Wednesday, our systems were running slow, so we decided to have a planned outage while we fixed the problem. This started at 2.30pm and we deliberately set reduced speed limits on certain parts of the network. Around 5.45pm a new issue was identified which resulted in a number of incorrect signs being displayed on some parts of our network. This was resolved around 9.30pm with mandatory signs and signals working again as normal from that point. After a lot of investigation and testing, our technical teams found the fault and have fixed it. We can confirm that the repair was completed.
