Speed camera in both directions faulty
Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 00:20, Wed 26 October 2022
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3914999.
Twice in 7 days I have passed the camera between jct 3-4 whilst a temporary limit is in force. A 40 limit was shown, camera flashed at 35mph just after midnight October 2022, 1 week later a 60 was posted, camera flashed at 57mph during evening rush hour. My vehicle and sat nav both confirmed my speed so happy with the accuracy. In the last week I’ve seen north and soundbound cameras flash 12 times from further up or down the m3. Always same camera location

Thank you for your report concerning the M3.
The Highway Agency Digital Enforcement Camera System 3 (HADECS) enforces the speed limit displayed on associated ‘red ring’ signals at the time across multiple lanes. There’re built-in safe¬guards which pre¬vent the cam¬era from acti¬vat¬ing if there’s a crit¬i¬cal fault, for exam¬ple with the Advanced Motorway Indicator (AMI) sig¬nal show¬ing the speed limit. The sys¬tem is designed to ensure that it will only cap¬ture an offence when the equip¬ment is work¬ing cor¬rectly; this is a require¬ment of Home Office Type Approval (HOTA). The police will only prosecute those motorists who have been detected exceeding the displayed speed limit or failing to comply with a Red X signal.
