Closed lay by(s) on A12

Why was it necessary to close so many lay bys on the A12 from the M25 to Ipswich and when will this vital facility for (eg) carsick children be restored?

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the closed laybys on the A12.

    The laybys are closed because we either need this area to work in as we reconstruct the carriageway, or it’s closed to prevent road users leaving and then re-joining the single lane traffic, which can cause a safety issue, as well as hampering the flow of traffic through our roadworks.
