Huge congestion caused by lack of traffic lights to enable traffic to exit Breck Road

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 14:05, Sat 22 October 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3906602.

Very long queues on Amounderness results in constant slow stream of traffic at Skippool roundabout, which results in vehicles not being allowed access to roundabout from Breck Road because there are no traffic lights. Increasingly HGVs as using Breck Road as an escape route, causing vibration and concerns re road safety. There are 2 primary schools, 1 nursery within a few hundred metres.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning congestion at Amounderness. We're sorry for the inconvenience you're experiencing. We don’t encourage large wagons to use Breck Road. Unfortunately, we can’t stop larger vehicles from other organisations from using Breck Road. The only body who could do that is Lancashire County Council (by applying a weight restriction). We will re-brief out to subcontractors and see if there is any signage we can put out to help deter traffic.

We will be switching from a roundabout to a temporary signalised junction, early 2023.

We will continue to monitor this If you require any further update on this issue our Customer Contact Centre is available 24 hours a day at:
