Bollards needed to prevent queue jumping.

Reported via desktop in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 18:00, Thu 20 October 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3903232.

Drivers are causing the queues they are trying to jump ahead of. Bollards from the first sign southbound to the Team valley slip road (Junction 67) would reduce queueing times. Been happening since start of roadworks.

  • Thank you for your comment on the Fix My Street website on Thursday 20 October regarding driver behaviour on the A1 southbound dedicated lane approaching junction 67. We do understand your frustration that drivers are using the dedicated lane to get ahead of the congested traffic and then cut into lane one at the last minute. There are signs displayed along the A1 that stipulate the dedicated lane is for traffic that want to take the exit at junction 67. We are aware of this behaviour, but we have no control over it unfortunately, and if drivers want to drive in the dedicated lane and then change into lane one at the last minute, we can’t stop them. We will investigate this area of concern again to see if any further signage can be installed to help with this issue. We would like to thank you again for contacting us and hope the information we have supplied has been helpful to you. If you have any further enquiries or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us by email on or by telephoning the customer contact centre on 0300 123 5000.
