Incorrect and dangerous road signage

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 21:02, Tue 4 October 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3868494.

Westbound M27, lane 1 is signposted as the slip road to Fareham West A27. Lane 2 is signposted as M27 or Fareham West and Whiteley. This implies that, upon exiting the motorway the left lane is for Fareham and the right lane is Fareham or Whiteley. However on the slip road the left lane splits into 2 lanes (left for Fareham and right for Fareham or Whiteley) the original right lane is for Whiteley only. This leads to confusion and a lot of unnecessary lane changing on the slip road. Either the signs need changing, or (an easier solution) alter the lane lines on the slip road so the right lane splits into 2 lanes and not the left.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning incorrect signage on the M27 at Junction 9 Westbound off slip.

We’re aware of an issue with the alignment of the directional signage and the lane markings in this area. An instruction has been passed to the contractor to revise the lane markings to ensure all of the directional information correctly aligns. This change will be undertaken shortly and when the next suitable opportunity allows within the contractor’s programme.

    Kind regards
