Safety for Avonmouth M5 J18 southbound slip road
Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 16:14, Mon 3 October 2022
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3865217.
Why is there no suitable signage and warning for the driving expectation of the road at this junction? It is a 360 degrees loop to join the southbound M5, so why is there no indication that you will need to drive a complete circle? Why don’t you indicate this circular route with an image at the start of the course? Why aren’t there any upright signs and continuous black and white chevrons on the circular bend? Why aren’t there any reflectives on the concrete barriers right-hand side ? What will you do to improve safety for drivers at this junction?

Thank you for contacting National Highways concerning signage on the M5 Junction 18.
We continually monitor safety of our road network. This location has been assessed and there have been no serious accidents within the last ten years which would suggest that a priority safety intervention wouldn't be required at this time. It's noted that this section is well lit which allows drivers to identify changes to the road geometry during the hours of darkness. However, we note your concerns and have recorded them accordingly.
