Subsidence throws cars across road
Reported via mobile in the Road surface (NH) category anonymously at 12:20, Thu 29 September 2022
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3856904.
I clearly recall the building of the A42 over bridge there, I work in construction. The bridge is an open concrete box with stoned embankments to carry Salter road up and over the A42 I often passed and saw this at the time.
Approaching from Long Whatton at a normal speed vehicles, including busses, are thrown about as the embankment is subsiding whilst the concrete box of the bridge remains as it was built. There is an abrupt jump in the road surface at the crest. It is only a matter of time before there is an accident and it’s unlikely that the bridge guard rails would stop an errant car.
