M4 east reading to London

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 11:58, Wed 28 September 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3854398.

Moderated by National Highways at 11:18, Mon 3 October 2022

The speed on this section of motorway is set to 60 mph. Light traffic, fast lane empty, no road works etc - why was this set to 60 for no apparent reason?

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning speed restrictions on the M4 at Junction 11.

We've investigated this location and can confirm we have no records of roadworks or incidents taking place in this area on the date of submission.

It's possible that these restrictions were in place due to our MIDAS system, which detects slow-moving traffic on the road and temporarily reduces the speed limit to reduce congestion. Sometimes these limits take a few minutes to update, so this restriction may have been in response to slow moving traffic that had since cleared.

Thank you for your report, we appreciate your feedback on our roads. Please get back in contact if the problem persists.
