No sign explaining that junction 11 north-west bound is closed!

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 14:56, Sat 24 September 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3845935.

We have just queued for 40 minutes up to the roundabout for the M4 at junction 11 where there is a lane closure sign, but no sign explaining that the M4 is actually shut in the north-west bound direction at weekends.

Google Maps does not recognise this either - I really do think you need to update the signage. Being 6 months’ pregnant, the journey home today has been extremely uncomfortable for me.

The M4 closure has also caused an incredible amount of congestion around all roads in the area - I really think this needs to be publicised better.

Updates

  • Absolute chaos, terrible diversion signage, traffic congestion absymal, cars continaully crossing into each others paths, how there wasn't multiple collisions I don't know. Added 2 hours onto our journey home that should have only take 2 hours anyway! Absolutely disgusted.

  • My Satnav took me from Caversham to M4 J11 as I wished to go to hungerford. Nothing said you couldn't access the M4 westbound. The road signs were still saying M4 South Wales but they just kept sending you round in circles. Eventually found my way to Theale J10 through narrow, winding lanes, but absolutely no road diversion signs to help you back to M4 westbound from anywhere in Reading Reading.
