Dangerous lighting/structure

Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 19:01, Fri 16 September 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3830654.

Two new massive digital billboards have been constructed overlooking the M32 at Jct2-3 westbound. They are so large and bright that as you come round the corner they temporary blind you when driving at night/in the dark. They are so close to the road that it's like having a torch shined directly in your eyes whilst driving at motorways speed on at junction with lots of lane changing. It's going to cause an accident.

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways concerning the signs.

The signs went through the planning process and are subject to conditions regarding transition speed and light intensity.

They're intended to attract attention and are now commonplace around the UK with no evidence that such signs have cause accidents.

They've also resulted in the removal of a significant number of static signs thus reducing overall the information presented to drivers on the M32 locality.

If you require any further information please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or

    Kind regards
