30mph and 50mph signage

Reported via mobile in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 16:49, Fri 16 September 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3830469.

Joke. Despite all your signage the only way to calm speed is average speed cameras. It is scarey and dangerous for us sensible drivers to abide to your limits. Please do something.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning the speed limits in place for the Ouse Bridge scheme.

The 30 mph speed limit over the bridge is in place due to the reduced lane widths required to accommodate the two lanes in either direction together with the barrier to segregate the traffic, with the 50 mph speed limit in place to slow traffic down as they approach the crossover points for the contraflow. Both speed limits are there to protect both the travelling public together with the workforce.

Whilst both speed limits are legally enforceable, we do accept that, as traffic has become accustomed to the traffic management layout, it has resulted in an increase in speed of traffic through the contraflow lanes.

As a result we have been in discussion with Humberside Police and Safer Roads Humber with regards to the use of mobile enforcement cameras and average speed cameras to be positioned across the bridge. We will be working with both parties with a view to establishing the average speed cameras as quickly as possible.
