Speed cameras between jct39 / 40 M1 North Appear to Triggering Falsely

Reported via desktop in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 19:41, Sun 11 September 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3817874.

The camera gantry between jct39 and 40 M1 north bound appears to be triggering for people travelling as less than the national speed limit despite no speed restriction being visible on the gantry or on any previous gantries. The gantry has the following markings 4927A / 292 70S (taken from Google street view). The time was approx 18:30 on 09/11/22.

Updates

  • The camera triggered this morning with no speed limit lit up, so the problem hasn't been solved

  • Hi I reported the camera between jct 39 and jct 40 for flashing when no speed limit is enforced and its still doing it, why hasn't it been repaired as others reported it, months ago

  • The camera triggered and did me for doing 82 mph when there were no Variable Limits in force, so the camera is still triggering incorrectly.

  • Camera alleges I was doing 83MPH 13/6/23 my sat nav speed was no where near that .

  • Camera also alleges I was doing 88mph which I really don't think I was anyway near this speed on the 30/7/2023 at 13.57

  • I have just received a Notice of intended prosecution for going 72mph - West Yorkshire Police are saying that there was a 60mph variable speed limit being enforced at the time. Some of the speed limit signs were on and others off making it very confusing.

  • Just flashed around 4pm today, doing 60mph, no variable limit in force

  • Flashed at 74mph. None of the matrix signs active to show a reduced speed limit.

  • I got flashed at 81mph in the same junction, I don’t remember seeing any variable speed limits in the gantry either.

  • No variable speed limit was in place. Was caught doing 83 mph but my cruise control was on for 70 because at some junctions the matrix was flashing on and off really weird

  • Received a speeding notification of intended prosecution for supposedly travelling at 80mph on 18th April 2004 between junction 39-40 on north bound M1. However there were no variable speed limits showing on the overhead gantries and the speed camera did not activate/flash.

  • Nothing to tell you the variable speed limit on M1 between junction 39 and 40. Can you obtain footage to contest a fine

  • Junction 39 to 40 North bound. Had speeding fine. Didn't see anything warning of variable speed. Cant say we saw anything flashing saying we'd activated a speed camera. How do we contest this
