Speeding motorist within the TM

HI,
I drive the Ouse Bridge every day, I have no issue with the TM as it has to be done and the speed limits are there to protect workers and infrastructure. My issue is with the speed of drivers within the TM they know there is no speed cameras (average etc) so will speed through the 50mph and 30mph sections. This is a major issue as the disparity between 30 and 60mph + is massive within the narrow lanes and TM. It isn't nice to be overtaken by a lorry doing 56mph or cars at 70mph and you're doing 30mph on top of the Ouse bridge. Accidents are going to occur with such speeds and road restriction changes/differences. Average cameras could reduce the risk. I hope you can understand the issue.
Kind Regards
Adam

Dear Joseph
Thank you for contacting us by Fix My Street on 8 September about your concerns with regards to traffic exceeding the current speed limits in place over the Ouse Bridge on the M62.
The 30mph speed limit over the bridge is in place due to the reduced lane widths required to accommodate the two lanes in either direction together with the barrier to segregate the traffic. The 50mph speed limit is in place to slow traffic down as they approach the crossover points for the contraflow. The speed limits are there to protect both the travelling public and the workforce. While both speed limits are legally enforceable, we do accept that as traffic has become accustomed to the traffic management layout we’ve identified an increase in speed of traffic through the contraflow lanes. As a result, we’ve been in discussion with Humberside Police and Safer Roads Humber with regards to the use of mobile enforcement cameras and average speed cameras to be positioned across the bridge. We’ll be working with both parties with a view to establishing the average speed cameras as quickly as possible.
Thank you again for contacting us. If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone: 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk.

- I agree. As much as the 30mph limit seems (in my opinion anyway) a little too slow, especially since there doesn't seem to be any work going on here, or certainly not that I have seen myself, when you get wagons thundering past you at their limiters not to mention other road users, its a bit un-nerving (and totally taking the... Mickey) anyway, I got I reply from the highways recently stating the work is planned to start from January 2023 through to "winter 2023" So were gonna be on a go-slow for a while yet! Great.
