Thank you for your report concerning a speed camera fault on the M27 Eastbound.
We're aware of a fault affecting cameras on the Westbound M27 junctions 5-4, so it may be the case that a similar fault is affecting these cameras, too.
We have logged the fault with the camera supplier for investigation.
Kind regards
National Highways

Further to your enquiry, we can provide the below response.
The M27 between junctions 4 and 11 has recently been upgraded to an all-lanes running smart motorway and includes several HADECS speed/Red X enforcement cameras, new to this section of motorway. These cameras are now operational and the HADECS camera supplier has advised that the cameras are working as expected and that they are detecting speeding violations and Red X violations when variable speed limits and lane closures are respectively set.
HADECS enforces the speed limit displayed on associated ‘red ring’ signals at the time across multiple lanes. If the signals are not displaying a speed limit, then HADECS enforces the National Speed Limit. There are built-in safeguards which prevent the camera from activating if there is a critical fault, for example with the AMI signal showing the speed limit. The system is designed to ensure that it will only capture an offence when the equipment is working correctly; this is a requirement of HOTA.
We will continue to monitor this and will arrange any work if the situation changes. If you require any further update on this issue our Customer Contact Centre is available 24 hours a day at:

They seem to set stupidly low limits, and red cross signs, miles before any obstacle. I was flashed at 48mph. With 4 lanes of clear motorway for at least 1-1/3rd miles before coning off even started,I was the only vehicle in the picture. And I actually left the motorway before the roadworks started . £347 that cost me. In my opinion setting the limit at the point where the camera is positioned was nothing more than cash generating. There was absolutely no need for it. As I say over a mile of clear 4 lanes, and no road crew for over 2 miles. Justify that...given that the A34 frequency only have 800 yard warning of lane closures and no limit reduction

M27 camera (towards Southampton) seems to be faulty again, last 40mph camera past the obstruction (broken down car) with NSL sign in view, started flashing around 5 - 8 times consecutively at 5 vehicles, two ahead, car in lane 2 and van in lane 3, and 3 cars across all three lanes behind, everyone was doing 40mph if that, at around 8am on 9/9/2023, should be looked into as the pattern of flashing was not normal.

I was driving on M27 eastbound between Southampton and Fareham and was flashed by the gantry camera on the other side of the motorway (westbound). The westbound gantry had a 50mph limit displayed but there was no reduced limit on the eastbound side. I don’t believe there was another vehicle passing/ speeding on the eastbound side at the exact same time.

Driving westbound on M27 between Fareham and Southamptontoday at approx 08:20bst. Myself and five or six other cars all slowed down for the new 50mph limit before the gantry. We were driving almost in sync and exactly the same speed. We all got flashed a dozen times. Mounted phone using google maps gps logged 44mph. Temperamental built in Car GPS claimed 42mph, car speedo claimed 46mph. I hate hadecs and never speed, and give myself piece of mind mounting every speedo I can have access to on journeys on the M27 just to be sure. Today, cars in all lanes matched pace with the myself and another car in lane 1, keeping well below the 50mph limit. We all got flashed so many times. If I get a notice I will be very upset. I intend to see the images they record and call upon every other driver in the dozen shots they must've taken to fight it. This camera has been reported for more than two years. It flashes randomly and doesn't seem to measure the speed at the point of the infraction. Previous 'answers' for that gantry on highway's site all claim Highways' Hadec brand investigated themselves and found their product works better than advertised. They would say that wouldn't they. How corrupt is that... (btw no lanes were closed in case someone wants to claim that every lane occupied that triggered a flash was closed, because that would have meant the whole M27 was shut as every car got a flash in every lane.)

I was driving westbound between Fareham and the Segensworth turn off this evening (7.15pm ish), and the cameras flashed whilst approaching and then I saw it flash again in rear view mirror a few seconds after. Im not sure which side of the motorway the camera captures or if its average speed check or normal speed camera, but looks like it was going off a lot. I was doing the speed limit and had cruise control on, but it has worried me, I've never seen it go off before, and for it to go off twice in the space of a few seconds.

M27 between junction 9&10 red circle indicated 50 got speeding ticket doing 46. Further down the motorway it reduced to 40mph. The camera and limit were not aligned with each other. This was on Monday 27 Feb 2024. Has anyone else got a ticket - the cameras were having a disco all 4 lanes were travelling at a similar speed.

M27 Camera flashed this morning. Speed was 50 MPH first and then 40MPH down the road. Unsure if I was flashed or someone else but there was quite a bit of congestion just ahead of the incident.
Is there a syncing fault ?
