Gantry speed limit 40mph in both directions

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 19:19, Sat 3 September 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3800519.

Overhead speed limit suddenly displays 40mph for no reason. Dangerous as cars brake hard to get down from 70 to 40.... after about a mile displays End. For no reason! Why are such speed limits not corrected for hours after the incident has been resolved? I've even seen Danger of Ice on a warm summer afternoon... come on guys! ... smoke less weed in the control room and get your signage right!!!

  • Dear Sir or Madam

Thank you for contacting us by Fix My Street on 3 September about the 40mph speed limit that displayed on the gantry on the M62 near junction 25.

The drop in speeds on signals can be a result of multiple reasons including MIDAS activation from a slow moving vehicle or queue protection if there is congestion ahead.

Thank you again for contacting us. If there is anything we can help you with, please email or telephone our Contact Centre. They’re available 24 hours a day by phone: 0300 123 5000 or by email info@nationalhighways.co.uk. Alternatively, please visit the National Highways website at nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards
