Illuminate bollard not illuminated - collision hazard

Reported via desktop in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 15:26, Fri 26 August 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3783192.

I can see that this issue was reported in May. This bollard is still not illuminated and is a collision hazard. This item is located east bound on the A120 Coggeshall Road just after Doghouse Road. It is situated just after a change in speed from 40mph to national speed limit of 60mph. If someone were to overtake at this location in the dark there could be a serious accident. I was trying to point it out to my husband last night as we drove along to make him aware and we couldn't see it until we were adjacent as headlights are not directed straight onto it due to its location. It is a hazard that someone could drive straight into it or that swerving to avoid would send them into the opposite carriageway causing a head on collision. It already looks like it has been hit as the signage has collapsed.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding the bollard on the A120 at Coggeshall Road. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

Our Local Inspector has visited this location and confirmed this is not an electrical bollard. However, a schedule has been raised for the second bollard that’s missing to help with visibility of the island. Additionally, there is a lamp column that’s damaged already, however this is scheduled to be repaired.

Thank you again for contacting us. If you need more information about this, please feel free to contact me. For anything else, please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or by email at info@nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards
