Build up of graffiti on the piers of the Orwell Bridge, west sude of River Orwell

Reported via mobile in the Graffiti (NH) category anonymously at 10:57, Wed 24 August 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3777137.

There had been a build up of graffiti on the piers of the bridge for some time, most of it spray painting, but some juvenile obscenities added mainly in chalk. A very large example has been 'posted' on the nearest pier to the river, facing outwards. Not exactly a positive welcome to Ipswich for anyone sailing up the river. I have photos, although I note there us no way to upload these on this site.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways about graffiti on the Orwell Bridge piers.

We have forwarded your concerns to our maintenance team. Obscene or offensive graffiti will either be covered or removed as quickly as possible.

Removal of graffiti may require specialist equipment or lane or road closures to keep our workforce safe. This means that it is not always cost-effective to remove it as it appears. Therefore, graffiti which that is neither offensive or obscene will be recorded and removed during the next round of periodic cleaning (within 6 months).

Thank you again for contacting us. If you need more information about this, please contact our Customer Contact Centre on 0300 123 5000 or by email at info@nationalhighways.co.uk.

    Kind regards

    National Highways
