Speed restrictions, road closures length of roadworks on the A12

Reported via desktop in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 12:26, Sat 20 August 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3768548.

A12 J26 to J30.You have 40mph speed limit, even though the northbound has no roadworks whatsoever for months now, since you finished the resurfacing. Barriers take absolutely ages to be completed, i use the road on a daily basis and i see the same picture every day. Just a few metres of extra completion. Even if you treat the road as a single carriageway the speed limit should be 60mph. when you have workforce on the road, is is close anyway... Unless if you do it on purpose as a disregard for the road users (that's in my opinion a standard practice for you). A12 Southbound. i haven't noticed any works to be done since you put the temporary barriers a few months ago. To sum up, this is, by far, the worst organized roadworks i have experienced, during my 35 years of driving and a 2milion plus miles i have done in this country. Ps. If you want more details, i can provide anything you want.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning reduced speeds on during closures.

I understand your frustrations with temporarily reduced speed limits and that there appears to be no work taking place.

The temporary speed limits on the A12 are in place for safety reasons whilst we replace safety barriers. Whilst the safety barriers are incomplete or unable to contain an errant vehicle, the reduced speed limit should reduce the likelihood of a vehicle entering the opposite carriageway or leaving the nearside. The reduced speed limits will remain in place until the work is finished .

All work is taking place overnight between 8pm and 6am and drivers are diverted from the A12 so that we can work safely. You can read more about this at https://nationalhighways.co.uk/ our-roads/ east/ east-road-maintenance-work/ .

In the future could you please report issues such as this to our Customer Contact Centre as this reporting tool is designed for defects such as a broken sign or barrier, litter, overgrown vegetation or potholes.
