Notifying lane closure and speed limits when no roadworks

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 23:01, Thu 18 August 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3765587.

From about J3 to J6 westbound there’s a 40mph speed limit, workers in road and 4 lane closure sign but no works…however eastbound at j6 there’s roadworks so think the signs are not on properly.

  • Thank you for your report concerning a closure on the M4.

Unfortunately, as this report doesn't specify what time of day this journey took place, it's difficult for us to ascertain if this signage was correct. I can confirm that there was a collision on the 18th that resulted in an emergency overnight closure, and there is also an ongoing scheme taking place between junctions 5 and 6 going both directions. The collision and relevant closure have since been cleaned up and the road reopened, however the scheme is still ongoing. We will assess the signage and make sure these closures are correctly signposted, however without further information we can't action any specific changes.
