Cars not stopping at Zebra crossing end of gravel lane.

Reported via mobile in the Sign issue (NH) category anonymously at 16:22, Sun 14 August 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3753033.

Most cars do not stop at the Zebra crossing on the eastbound slip road to the A31 at the end of gravel lane into the subway. Cars are trying to avoid the traffic on the A31 by cutting down the slip roads and then rejoining the main carriageway. I have had numerous incidents on this crossing. This has been going on for a number of months and needs to be addressed ASAP. Thank you.

Updates

  • Thank you for contacting National Highways regarding poor driver behaviour near the A31.

Unfortunately, as National Highways are not an enforcement agency, we can't take action against poor drivers. If you have any suggestions regarding signage, road layout, or other road management options, please resubmit a report. However, reports of drivers refusing to obey Highway Code and putting pedestrians' lives at risk should go to the Police to action.

    Kind regards,

    National Highways

  • (John Haywood, Town Councillor for Ringwood North)

A number of residents have contacted me with this issue, some in significant distress having had a close run in with a car not stopping on a poorly-sighted zebra crossing.

Given the amount of traffic on the roads here, the position of this crossing at a major road network node, the poor sightlines, signage and lighting in this place on what is a major pedestrian and cycling route between two parts of Ringwood, it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed here.

I most strongly urge National Highways to upgrade this crossing (and the identical one on the south side of the A31) to full Toucan crossings before someone gets killed here.

  • Hi there are a lot if cars on the Zebra Crossing ( when patrol is not there) when I cross quite often because I go to the local shops not stopping it seems to be quite often getting worse this is in Shephall away junction opp the Hyde Shops in Stevenage Herts Quite a few young men who are boy racers just steam roll and expect you to let them.pass this is steadily getting worse and I feel anxious crossing that particular part of the road now.
