Armco Barrier Severely Buckled
Reported via mobile in the Structures (eg bridges, fencing, noise barriers) (NH) category anonymously at 20:24, Wed 10 August 2022
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3745535.
This has been reported in March but needs looking into. I have read the previous response regarding the buckled newly fitted Armco, I have never seen anything so severe. There must be expansion joints that need adjusting, or you run the risk of damaging / ripping up the posts which the barrier is secured to.

Thank you for your report concerning the barrier on the A63. The issue here is that, in common with most materials, the steel barrier beams expand as they warm up. The barrier system was originally installed overnight during the cold period around November / December 2021, where temperatures were typically at or just below 0⁰C. When the beams are exposed to direct sunlight, as has been the case during the recent high temperatures, they will warm up to hotter than the air temperature. This temperature variation has caused the beams to expand; the fact that they are tied to fixed posts has caused them to bend. We've asked our team to check further on site just to ensure there are no issues given the extreme temperatures we have experienced.
The providers of the the barrier have however in the past assured us that it has no effect on the structural integrity or performance of the barrier system
