Blinding lights shined into drivers eyes
Reported via mobile in the Roadworks (NH) category anonymously at 17:02, Sat 30 July 2022
Sent to National Highways less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 3718556.
At the beginning and end of roadworks, there is a light that is blindingly too bright. To avoid being blinded by this unnecessary hazard, I close my eyes. This is a very serious issue with driving. Nearly every streetlight, building lights, other vehicles and roadwork lighting shines into drivers eyes and prevents oneself from seeing ahead. Seeing ahead is probably the most important part of driving. Why are you intentionally trying to cause accidents and death?

Your enquiry has been passed to us at Costain Jacobs as we are working on behalf of National Highways on the A1 Birtley to Coalhouse improvement scheme.
Thank you for your feedback regarding some lighting on the A1 Birtley to Coalhouse roadwork scheme which, as you state, has caused some visual distraction when driving. I have contacted the site team and construction manager who have informed me they can check the lighting at night and feedback any issues. Without any specific information on the location, it is difficult to identify exactly which type of light could be too bright and causing a distraction to road users. The team have agreed to check the lighting and rectify any problems, should they find any. If you would like to get back in touch via email and let us know of any specific location information of the lighting, please do so by emailing;
A1BirtleytoCoalhouse@nationalhighways.co.uk .
Again, we thank you for your feedback.
