Why crashes keep happening?

Reported via desktop in the Road markings (NH) category anonymously at 10:48, Friday 29 July 2022

Sent to National Highways less than a minute later

The entry to the roundabout from the M4, divides into three lanes before the stop line and traffic lights. Each lane has markings to indicate the correct lane for users to access their desired road on exiting the roundabout. All three of these lanes is marked for an A419 exit. However the left lane does not continue around onto the A419 but onto the exit slip back onto the M4. So any vehicle in this lane wishing to enter the A419 North has to either push into the lane to their right or crash into the barrier. Crashing into the barrier seems to be the preferred option.

Updates

  • Thank you for your report concerning road markings on the M4 at J15.

We've assessed the markings at this location and found that they accurately direct drivers and are in good condition. Road markings on the exit slip guide lane 1 drivers into lane 2, and from there they can either exit onto the M4 or continue to the A419. If these markings are being ignored or disregarded by the drivers, this is driver error, and since we're not an enforcement agency, we can't address this issue. Poor driver behaviour should be reported to the Police.
